Is Nocturnal Dialysis the Right Treatment
for You?
North Cypress Dialysis Center offers treatment options for individuals with a busy lifestyle.
06/03/11 - For patients with a busy lifestyle or those that work during the day, nocturnal dialysis could prove to be the ideal treatment. In-center nocturnal dialysis allows patients to receive 6 to 8 hours of treatment three times a week while peacefully sleeping throughout the night.
Nocturnal dialysis is twice as long and twice as frequent as conventional dialysis. This longer, slower type of treatment is easier on the body, and optimizes blood purification since the gradual removal of toxins and excess fluids more closely mimics normal kidney function. Because this method closely resembles normal function of the kidney, many patients experience less nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, itchiness, dry skin, tiredness, and lack of energy as experienced with conventional dialysis.
Other benefits of nocturnal dialysis include increased energy levels, improved heart health, improvement in quality of sleep, reduced need for some medications, increased appetite, and fewer dietary restrictions. In many cases, blood pressure control improves to such a large extent that patients are able to stop their blood pressure medication within the first few weeks after starting nocturnal dialysis. For those that have been diagnosed with the sleeping disorder “sleep apnea”, nocturnal dialysis has been shown to improve this problem.
The North Cypress Dialysis Center offers outpatient nocturnal dialysis in an upscale, five-star hotel-like atmosphere. The goal is to enhance the lives of those living with renal failure by providing advanced dialysis treatment in a warm and comfortable environment. The luxurious dialysis center offers dialysis chairs with heating and massage capabilities, personal flat screen TVs and laptops, individual phones and call lights, WIFI access, valet parking, welcome bags, complimentary snacks and drinks, flexible schedule, on-call staff for Inpatient Services and a continental breakfast for nocturnal dialysis patients.
